In order to support herself, Handler began to work as an actor. At age 21, Handler decided to pursue stand-up comedy full time, as she was able to discover her storytelling abilities. Handler's career began as part of an all-female Oxygen Television cast of the comedy show with hidden cameras Girls Behaving Inexplicably. The show ran on air from 2002 to 2005. The handler appeared in other programs, including Weekends at D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler also began working as the correspondent for The Tonight Show. Her breakthrough came in the year 2006, when she was able to host her own show on E! It was named the Chelsea Handler Show. The show ran for a total of two seasons. Handler also performed in America on Comedy Central Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour. VH1, Comedy Central Premium Blend, HBO and Comedy Central have all aired her stand-up performances. Her name was chosen as the host of the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in 2010. By doing this, she was the only female host ever to do so, after Roseanne.
